Special Experience of “Exorcism” at Yuga Shrine

Special Japanese cultural experience at Yuga Shrine Main Sanctuary

Plan Details

“Yugasan” is the sacred mountain with the history of over 2,000 years, and the oldest building on Yugasan is Yuga Shrine Main Sanctuary. Yuga Shrine is known as “Head shrine for warding off evil spirits,” and it prospered as a place of prayer for the imperial court, and also under the patronage of Lord Ikeda, the feudal lord of Okayama, during the Edo period.

This experience will take place in the main sanctuary. This palce was once only accessible to Lord Ikeda, the feudal lord of Okayama.

“Oharai” means to purify or cleanse both body and mind.

“Miko-mai” refers to a dance performed by Miko, a woman who serves the gods, as an offering to them.

“Ceremony of Yakudama” is a ritual in which you breathe your bad luck into a ball and then throw it against the wall to shatter it. At Shinto shrines, the act of exhaling has the meaning of purifying one’s own mind.

Let’s try to do this unique Japanese cultural experience and purify both your body and soul.
